About
Josh Mellicker's electric guitar solo is the second of three solos on this 2021 LA Jazz Connection performance of Horace Silver's "Nica's Dream," following Danny Janklow's alto saxophone. He takes two choruses of the 64-bar AABA form at 208 BPM with a Latin feel in B-flat, his electric guitar tone bringing a different timbral quality to Silver's hard bop composition. At 60 to 61, Mellicker brings seasoned musicianship to the extended form, with the guitar's sustain and harmonic flexibility offering a contrasting approach to the preceding saxophone. He is followed by Abe Lagrimas Jr. on drums.
Josh Mellicker was 60 to 61 years old at the time.
