About
Abe Lagrimas Jr.'s drum solo is the third and final solo on this 2021 LA Jazz Connection performance of Horace Silver's "Nica's Dream," following Danny Janklow's alto saxophone and Josh Mellicker's electric guitar. He takes one chorus of the 64-bar AABA form at 216 BPM with a Latin feel in B-flat, using the extended form to build a rhythmically inventive solo that draws on the Latin groove's polyrhythmic possibilities. At 37 to 38 years old, Lagrimas brings a diverse rhythmic vocabulary to Silver's hard bop composition.
Abe Lagrimas Jr. was 37 to 38 years old at the time.
