About
Josh Mellicker's electric guitar solo is the second of three solos on this 2021 LA Jazz Connection performance of George Gershwin's "A Foggy Day," following Danny Janklow's alto saxophone. He takes two choruses of the 34-bar ABAC form at 191 BPM with a Latin feel in F, his electric guitar providing a warm, articulate voice within the Latin groove. Mellicker's approach to the Gershwin standard brings a different timbral perspective than the preceding alto saxophone, exploiting the guitar's capacity for sustained notes and chordal passages.
Josh Mellicker was 60 to 61 years old at the time.
