About
Stan Getz's tenor saxophone solo on "Body and Soul" is the only solo on this 1952 ballad performance from Stan Getz Plays. He takes a quarter chorus of the 32-bar AABA form at 67 BPM in D-flat, one of the most iconic tenor saxophone vehicles in the jazz repertoire. Getz jumps back to the bridge after playing the melody and then solos only over the B section. This economical approach to one of jazz's greatest ballads allows Getz to make a complete musical statement in a compact space, his luminous tone and exquisite melodic sensibility bringing fresh beauty to the famous bridge changes.
Stan Getz was 24 to 25 years old at the time.
