About
Lou Levy wraps up the solo sequence with a single chorus on piano, the last of three improvisations. Taken at an up-tempo swing tempo of 188 BPM over the 32-bar ABAC in D, the improvisation flows with assured, relaxed momentum. The rhythm section of Levy, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Stan Levey drives the performance with the precision and swing that characterized the best West Coast recording sessions. Recorded for the album Getz Meets Mulligan in Hi-Fi in 1957, the performance captures Lou Levy at 28 to 29 years old. The melody follows an ABAC structure and features chromatic coloration that gives it harmonic depth beyond typical Tin Pan Alley fare.
Lou Levy was 28 to 29 years old at the time.
