About
Jimmy Cobb wraps up the solo sequence with three choruses on drums, the last of three improvisations. Taken at an up-tempo swing tempo of 190 BPM over the 12-bar Blues in C, the improvisation flows with assured, relaxed momentum. Drummer Jimmy Cobb, whose career spans from Miles Davis to this late-period collaboration, contributes three choruses of drum solo that demonstrate the melodic drumming approach he refined over decades of performance at the highest level. Recorded for the album Wonderful! Wonderful! in 2012, the performance captures Jimmy Cobb at 83 to 84 years old. "Five Spot After Dark" is a swing composition written by Benny Golson in 1959, one of eight jazz standards for which Golson is solely responsible as composer.
Jimmy Cobb was 83 to 84 years old at the time.
