Opening the solo section, this tenor sax improvisation spans four choruses of the 28-bar AABC form at a straight-eighth feel at 130 BPM. The straight-eighth feel creates a contemporary rhythmic foundation that invites a different approach to phrasing than a traditional swing context. The extended solo length of over 3 minutes allows for a fully developed improvisation with room to build, explore, and resolve musical ideas. Following this solo, Jun Iida takes over on trumpet.
