About
Alexis Cole's vocal solo is the first of two improvisations on this medium-swing rendition of Miles Davis's "All Blues" from her 2021 album Sky Blossom. Cole takes two choruses of scat singing over the 12-bar blues form in C at 141 BPM, bringing a vocalist's perspective to one of jazz's most iconic compositions. Originally conceived for Davis's landmark 1959 album Kind of Blue, the tune's modal framework provides a spacious foundation for vocal improvisation. The album was inspired by Cole's experiences performing for military personnel overseas. Alto saxophonist Derrick James follows with his own two-chorus solo.
Alexis Cole was 44 to 45 years old at the time.
