About
Clifford Brown's trumpet solo is the second of three improvisations on this recording, following Rollins's tenor saxophone. Taking two choruses of the 48-bar ABA form in B-flat at 272 BPM, Brown matches Rollins's intensity with his own brilliant trumpet work. His flawless technique allows him to navigate the demanding tempo with ease, his flowing melodic lines and crystalline tone standing as some of the finest trumpet improvisation of the hard bop era.
Clifford Brown was 25 to 26 years old at the time.
