About
Bill Evans's piano solo is the fourth and final improvisation on this recording, closing the solo section before the return of the iconic theme. Taking three choruses of the 12-bar blues in C minor at 120 BPM, Evans brings his signature touch and harmonic sophistication to bear on Nelson's composition. His introspective approach to the piano provides a contemplative conclusion to the solo sequence, the delicacy and nuance of his playing offering a gentle denouement after the more assertive horn solos that precede it.
Bill Evans was 31 to 32 years old at the time.
