About
Bill Evans's piano solo is the third and final improvisation on this recording, following solos by Dolphy and Hubbard. Taking two choruses of the 12-bar blues in C at 108 BPM, Evans closes the solo section with the understated harmonic sophistication that was his hallmark. His approach to the blues is distinctly pianistic, voicings and touch taking precedence over virtuosic display, the resulting solo possessing an intimate, reflective quality that provides a satisfying conclusion to the track.
Bill Evans was 31 to 32 years old at the time.
