About
Bill Evans's piano solo is the fourth and final improvisation on this recording, following solos by Nelson, Hubbard, and Dolphy. Taking three choruses of the 12-bar blues in G at 210 BPM, Evans closes out the extended solo section with his distinctive harmonic sensibility. His piano work at this medium-up tempo demonstrates his ability to swing with subtlety and grace, his voicings and melodic choices bringing a different textural quality to a blues track dominated by assertive horn soloists.
Bill Evans was 31 to 32 years old at the time.
