About
Clyde Hart's piano solo is the second of three improvisations on this recording, following Parker's alto saxophone. Taking two choruses of the 12-bar blues in B-flat at 213 BPM, Hart delivers a solid swing-to-bop transitional piano statement. Hart was one of the pianists who bridged the swing and bebop eras, and his playing here reflects that dual heritage, his lines pointing toward the new harmonic language that Parker was pioneering while retaining the rhythmic feel of the swing tradition.
Clyde Hart was 33 to 34 years old at the time.
