About
Miles Davis's trumpet solo is the second of three improvisations on this recording, following Parker's three-chorus alto saxophone statement. Taking two choruses of the 12-bar blues in F at 125 BPM, the young Davis contributes a solo that showcases his emerging voice. His two-chorus statement, while more economical than Parker's elaborate constructions, already demonstrates the spare, melodic sensibility and cool tonal quality that would soon establish him as one of jazz's most important voices.
Miles Davis was 18 to 19 years old at the time.
