About
Sadik Hakim's piano solo is the third and final improvisation on this recording, following solos by Davis and Parker. Taking one chorus of the 32-bar AABA form in B-flat at 231 BPM, Hakim navigates the rhythm changes contrafact with the bebop-informed approach of a pianist who was among the first to absorb and apply the new harmonic language. His one-chorus statement closes the solo section before the return of the head on this historically significant early version of what would become Anthropology.
Sadik Hakim was 25 to 26 years old at the time.
