About
Paul Chambers's acoustic bass solo closes out the improvised statements on this recording, following Wynton Kelly's piano. Spanning two choruses of the 16-bar AA' form at a relaxed 101 BPM with a swing feel in E♭, the solo runs approximately 1:15. Pianist Wynton Kelly follows with three characteristically elegant choruses, and bassist Paul Chambers contributes two melodic choruses that showcase his exceptional facility on the instrument. "Soul Station" is the title track from Hank Mobley's 1960 Blue Note album, widely regarded as his finest recording and one of the great tenor saxophone albums in jazz. Paul Chambers was 24 to 25 years old at the time of this 1960 recording.
