Mark Limacher is a Juno-nominated pianist, composer, and arranger based in Calgary, Canada. He has performed alongside a diverse range of artists, including vocalist Caity Gyorgy, saxophonist Ted Nash, and techno artist Corinthian. Limacher also regularly collaborates with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Theater Calgary. As a composer, he focuses on contemporary chamber music for solo instruments and small ensembles. His work is characterized by contemplative textures, intricate timbres, miniature forms, and subtle gestures. Reflecting this aesthetic, he sometimes describes his music as “Quiet, Slow, Boring”—a phrase that also served as the title of one of his concert performances in 2025.
Mark Limacher co-founded the NCRA award-winning radio program Things that Seemed Important at the Time with violinist Laura Reid in 2016. Mark Limacher minored in Constitutional Law while in college. Mark Limacher’s interests include Italian opera, early 20th-century music, psychoanalysis, and contemporary philosophy.
As a teenager Mark Limacher was drawn to experimental music and chose to study at the New School in New York City partly due to composer John Cage’s association with the university. Limacher also studied privately with composers Linda Catlin Smith (Toronto) and Laurence Crane (London, UK). In 2013 he served as apprentice to composer Bunita Marcus in Brooklyn, NY.
