Izaak Weatherwax is a Los Angeles-based jazz drummer who has established himself as an active presence on the Southern California jazz scene through his work as a bandleader, sideman, and jam session host. He leads the Izaak Weatherwax Quartet, featuring Zack Caplinger on guitar, Brian Clemens on piano, and Bryan McKenzie on bass. He is the drummer in vocalist Lia Booth's regular trio and has collaborated with Canadian bassist Jodi Proznick and bassist Sam Rocha, among others. He hosts Jazz Mondays at Three Clubs in Los Angeles and has held a Saturday evening residency at the Culver Hotel in Culver City.
Weatherwax studied with four distinguished jazz drumming pedagogues: Roy McCurdy, Carl Allen, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, and Kevin Kanner. His stated influences span multiple generations of jazz drumming, including Vernell Fournier, Ed Thigpen, Kenny Washington, Al Harewood, and Joe Farnsworth.
