Everybody's Jumpin' was composed by Dave Brubeck for the 1959 album Time Out, recorded by the Dave Brubeck Quartet for Columbia Records. Portions of the tune date back to 1950, though it was completed for the Time Out sessions. The composition features a distinctive rhythmic structure built on three four-bar units alternating between 4/4 and 3/2 time, creating a twelve-bar cycle that repeats across six choruses, with the head extending this pattern through additional measures in 3/4. Written specifically to showcase drummer Joe Morello's rhythmic virtuosity, the tune pairs with Pick Up Sticks on the album as a vehicle for Morello's inventive stick work, a contrast to the brushes-versus-sticks dynamic the band explored in their performances. The piece exemplifies Brubeck's pioneering approach to unusual meters, part of a broader rhythmic vocabulary he developed after encountering additive time signatures during a State Department-sponsored tour of Eurasia. An alternate version of the tune, retitled Everybody's Comin', appeared in Dave and Iola Brubeck's musical The Real Ambassadors. The original Time Out recording, captured in a single take with Desmond on alto saxophone, Brubeck on piano, and a prominent Morello drum solo, remains the primary version. On AllSolos, transcribed solos from this recording include contributions from Desmond, Brubeck, and Morello.
