"The Feeling Is Mutual" is an original composition by Canadian jazz vocalist and songwriter Caity Gyorgy, appearing as the twelfth track on her album Featuring, released in 2022 on La Reserve Records. The album is structured around a collaborative concept in which each track features a different guest artist performing alongside Gyorgy's core quartet of Felix Fox-Pappas on piano, Thomas Hainbuch on bass, and Jacob Wutzke on drums. On this particular tune, vocalist Laura Anglade joins as the featured guest, creating a vocal pairing that highlights the interplay between two singers rather than the voice-and-instrument combinations heard elsewhere on the record. Gyorgy composed eleven of the album's thirteen tracks in a style deeply rooted in the Great American Songbook tradition, blending bebop and swing influences with a contemporary lyrical sensibility. Her songs frequently center on themes of relationships and personal connection, and the title "The Feeling Is Mutual" points to a reciprocal emotional exchange that fits naturally within the album's broader celebration of musical partnership and admiration between collaborators. The Featuring project was supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and was nominated for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year at the 2023 JUNO Awards, following Gyorgy's win in the same category in 2022 for Now Pronouncing. Gyorgy has also been recognized as a songwriter through the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest, where she won the Grand Prize in the Jazz category.
