"The Long Day Is Over" is a song co-written by Jesse Harris and Norah Jones for Jones' landmark debut album Come Away with Me, released on Blue Note Records in February 2002. The composition is one of five tracks Harris contributed to the record, which was produced by Arif Mardin with additional production by Craig Street. The song reflects the understated, intimate songwriting sensibility that defined the album's aesthetic, blending elements of jazz, folk, and pop into a quietly contemplative vocal piece. Harris, a versatile songwriter, guitarist, and producer based in New York, had already established himself as a collaborator with artists across jazz and singer-songwriter circles before this partnership with Jones proved to be a career-defining moment for both. Their creative relationship extended well beyond Come Away with Me, with Jones appearing as a guest on many of Harris's subsequent albums and Harris serving as a guitarist on nearly all of her recordings. While another Harris composition from the same album, "Don't Know Why," became the breakout hit and won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 2003, "The Long Day Is Over" remains a valued deep cut from a record that sold over twenty million copies worldwide and helped reshape the landscape of popular music in the early 2000s.
