Other Voices is the Doors' first album recorded after the death of Jim Morrison in July 1971, released on October 18, 1971 on Elektra Records. The remaining trio of Ray Manzarek on keyboards, Robby Krieger on guitar, and John Densmore on drums continued as a band, with Manzarek and Krieger splitting lead vocal duties and session musicians filling out the arrangements. Krieger plays both electric and acoustic guitar across the album and contributes harmonica on some tracks, while Manzarek handles keyboards. Bassist Willie Ruff appears on several selections. The album features songs the band had been developing before Morrison's death alongside new material. Without Morrison's baritone and lyrical presence, the album has a markedly different character — Manzarek's and Krieger's vocals are thinner and less commanding, and the arrangements lean more toward progressive and jazz-rock territory. "Tightrope Ride" and "In the Eye of the Sun" are among the more ambitious tracks. The album reached number thirty-one on the Billboard 200, a significant drop from the band's earlier commercial heights. It was the first of two post-Morrison albums before the three surviving members disbanded in 1973.
