A 2022 installment of the Live From Emmet's Place series featuring tenor saxophonist Stacy Dillard, bassist Ben Wolfe, and drummer Victor Lewis with pianist Emmet Cohen. This concert brings together musicians from different generations, with Lewis, a veteran drummer who has worked with Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, and Woody Shaw, lending deep experience to the rhythm section. The program includes a Tadd Dameron rhythm changes piece at 117 BPM in B-flat, a Duke Pearson composition at 188 BPM in A-flat minor, a Victor Young ballad at 54 BPM, a Victor Lewis original with Latin feel at 204 BPM, a Dizzy Gillespie piece at 115 BPM in F minor, a Richard Rodgers ballad at 57 BPM in C minor, a Monk piece at 136 BPM in E-flat, a Bob Haggart ballad at 55 BPM, and a Freddie Hubbard blues at 157 BPM. Dillard's tenor playing ranges from intimate ballad statements to forceful uptempo blowing. Wolfe contributes bass solos on six pieces, including a featured spot on the Rodgers ballad. Cohen provides extensive piano solos throughout. Lewis's drum feature on his own composition is a highlight, and his presence elevates the rhythmic sophistication of the entire session.
