Danny Janklow's alto saxophone solo is the third and final solo on this 2021 LA Jazz Connection performance of "Blue in Green," following Josh Mellicker's electric guitar and Michael Gurrola's acoustic bass. He takes four choruses of the 10-bar form at 101 BPM with a funk feel in D, bringing the solo section to a close with his most extended statement on the compact form. The unconventional funk treatment of this classic Kind of Blue composition gives Janklow a rhythmically dynamic foundation for improvisation, and his alto playing brings a contemporary energy to the familiar harmonic material.
