About
Closing out the solo section, this keyboard improvisation spans three choruses of the 28-bar AABC form at a straight-eighth feel at 137 BPM. Kreibich's keyboard solo adapts to the straight-eighth feel with rhythmic variety and harmonic exploration. The straight-eighth feel creates a contemporary rhythmic foundation that invites a different approach to phrasing than a traditional swing context. The composition by Ken Weiner provides a rich harmonic canvas that rewards the soloist's exploration of its melodic and harmonic possibilities. Coming after Jun Iida's trumpet solo, this is the final improvisation before the ensemble returns to the head.
Paul Kreibich was 61 to 62 years old at the time.
