About
Barry Harris's piano solo is the third and final improvisation on this recording, following the extended tenor saxophone statements by Gordon and Moody. Taking four choruses of the 16-bar form in C at 165 BPM, Harris brings his deep bebop vocabulary to Dameron's composition. His solo provides a welcome change of timbre after the two extended horn solos, his piano work navigating the 16-bar form with the clarity and melodic directness that characterized his playing.
Barry Harris was 39 to 40 years old at the time.
