About
Lucky Thompson's tenor saxophone solo is the third of four improvisations on this recording. Lucky takes the second half of a split chorus with Miles Davis, soloing over a half chorus of the 32-bar AABA form in B-flat at 212 BPM. His tenor saxophone picks up seamlessly where Davis leaves off, the split-chorus format creating a dialogue between the two horn players within the single chorus over Parker's contrafact on "I Got Rhythm" changes.
Lucky Thompson was 21 to 22 years old at the time.
