About
Horace Silver's extended piano solo is the first of two solos on this Latin-feel performance of his own composition. Without a fixed chorus structure, Silver improvises freely over the harmonic framework at 140 BPM in D-flat minor, his playing moving between bluesy melodic fragments and more harmonically adventurous passages while maintaining the propulsive Latin feel. The open form structure gives Silver the freedom to develop his ideas at length, stretching across over two minutes of unbroken improvisation that showcases the full range of his pianism.
Horace Silver was 35 to 36 years old at the time.
