Kyle Poole is a New York based drummer, bandleader, and composer. He has played as a sideman with Bill Saxton, Mike Ledonne, Josh Evans, Stacy Dillard and Eric Wyatt. Currently, Poole leads his own group, Poole and Gang, and has a weekly residency at Small's Jazz Club in New York. Poole is particularly interested in incorporating all dance styles of music, from ragtime and bebop to funk and hip-hop.

Trivia

Kyle Poole was a semifinalist in the 2012 Thelonious Monk Competition. In 2016 Poole made a guest appearance with Wynton Marsalis & The Young Stars of Jazz at the Jazz Festival in Marciac, France. Kyle Poole is involved in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s outreach program, Jazz for Young People.

Early Life

Kyle Poole was born in Los Angeles in 1993. During high school he was active in drum corp. Poole was first introduced to jazz through a Thelonius Monk Institute outreach program that came to his school. The institute also facilitated his attendance at summer jazz camps. For his final year of high school Poole transferred to the LA County High School for the Arts where he continued to study music. In 2011, at age 17, he moved to New York to attend the New School on a full scholarship.
