The wide-ranging program includes a Miles Davis blues in F at 122 BPM, a Fats Waller piece recast in waltz time at 186 BPM in E-flat, a Tadd Dameron contrafact on What Is This Thing Called Love at 140 BPM, a Sean Jones original waltz at 99 BPM in C minor, another Jones original taken at a blistering 247 BPM, a traditional melody based on Londonderry Air as a ballad at 79 BPM, a Freddie Hubbard piece at 269 BPM based on Giant Steps changes, a Clifford Brown piece at 162 BPM, and a Jones blues in G. Jones demonstrates his versatility across this demanding program, from lyrical ballad statements to high-velocity bebop playing. Cohen delivers extended solos throughout, including an eleven-chorus statement on the Hubbard piece. The concert also features a remarkable sequence where Benack, Sarno, and Poole all take turns on the closing blues, with Poole contributing a vocal solo.
