About
Hubert Laws's flute solo is the last of three solos on this recording, following George Benson on electric guitar. Set in C at a relaxed 105 BPM with a funk feel, flutist Hubert Laws rounds out the solo sequence with his classically refined yet soulful approach, his flute dancing above the rhythm section. Laws's flute solo adds a distinctive timbral color, the instrument's lightness and agility providing a textural contrast to the other soloists. This inventive 1971 arrangement of Paul and Linda McCartney's "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" appears on Freddie Hubbard's Grammy-winning album First Light for CTI Records.
Hubert Laws was 31 to 32 years old at the time.
