Closing out the solo section, this drums improvisation spans one chorus of the 36-bar AABA form at a medium-up swing tempo of 195 BPM. Max Roach rounds out the proceedings with a drum solo over the form, displaying the melodic approach to percussion that made him one of jazz's greatest innovators. The 36-bar form provides a defined harmonic landscape for the improvisation. Coming after Richie Powell's piano solo, this is the final improvisation before the ensemble returns to the head.
