Arcoiris Sandoval is an American jazz composer, arranger, and pianist born in 1987 in Tucson, Arizona. She began composing early, performing original work with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra at age thirteen, and has since developed a catalog rooted in modern jazz composition for small and large ensembles. Her debut album First Voyage, recorded with her Sonic Asylum Trio in 2018, features all original music and won a Global Music Award. Sandoval's compositions on AllSolos include Sonic Asylum, Fox Hunt, Journey to Agartha, Spiral into Oblivion, Let Those Burdens Fall, and Maroon Nebula. Journey to Agartha has gained particular recognition, recorded by pianist George Cables on his album I Hear Echoes and selected for inclusion in Terri Lyne Carrington's New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers. Sandoval co-directs The D.O.M.E. Experience, a multimedia orchestra project with bassist Mimi Jones, and has served as arranger, musical director, and touring pianist for vocalist Allan Harris. Her mentors and influences include Marc Cary, Jason Moran, Vince Mendoza, and Billy Childs. Sandoval's writing blends lyrical jazz sensibility with adventurous harmonic language, contributing to a growing body of work that positions her among a new generation of jazz composers expanding the repertoire.
