Charlie Parker Tribute

A 2021 live stream tribute to Charlie Parker performed by the Chad LB Quartet featuring Chad Lefkowitz-Brown on tenor saxophone, Steven Feifke on piano, Dan Chmielinski on acoustic bass, and Bryan Carter on drums. The set list draws from Parker's original compositions and standards he was associated with. Pieces include a Parker contrafact on Twilight Time at 216 BPM in F, a Latin-tinged Parker original in E-flat, a fast Parker piece in B-flat minor at 242 BPM, a Matt Dennis ballad at 56 BPM, a John Klenner standard at 224 BPM, a Parker blues in F at 145 BPM, and a Parker rhythm changes tune at 240 BPM. Solos are distributed across all four players, with Carter taking a notable four-chorus drum solo on the B-flat minor piece. Lefkowitz-Brown adapts Parker's alto saxophone legacy to tenor, navigating the bebop vocabulary at demanding tempos. Feifke and Chmielinski contribute extended solos throughout the program. The concert spans the full emotional range of Parker's music, from intimate ballad playing to the breakneck tempos and dense harmonic language that defined the bebop revolution.
